Montgomery County District Attorney's Office Implements CJIS Web Viewer Software
Thursday, February 14, 2008
Shortly after coming to work as an investigator for the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, former Montgomery County Sheriff's Department crime scene specialist Joey Ashton, on February 14, 2008, implemented a computer program with the cooperation of the Texas Department of Public Safety known as CJIS Web Viewer. This software allows the District Attorney's Office to search and print out fingerprint cards from the Texas DPS criminal database. Rather than contacting an arresting agency from across the state and wait days for a mailed copy, it can now be done with a click of the computer mouse. This software insures the proper identification of those individuals awaiting court dates along with proving or disproving past convictions that can effect the outcome of punishment. This software has proven itself to be a tremendous asset to law enforcement agencies throughout the state while making jobs of the latent print examiners easier to obtain the finger prints for comparison. From the information received from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office appears to be the first district attorney's office to be given access to this database in the State. This is primarily due to the fact that Mr. Ashton is a Resident Latent Print Examiner expert.
